UW-Superior Accepting Nominations for 2024 Hall of Fame Class

SUPERIOR, Wis. – UW-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics are currently accepting nominations for the UW-Superior Athletic Hall of Fame class of 2024.

The latest class will be inducted into the UW-Superior Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, July 20 in the Great Room of the Yellowjacket Union on the UW-Superior campus.
 
Nominations are currently being accepted in the following categories:
 
Individual Award: This award is to recognize an honor individuals who have displayed distinctive, unique or exceptional athletic accomplishment at UW-Superior. Nominees must meet all of the following criteria:
        1. Individuals nominated for this award must have graduated or completed a minimum of two years of school at UW-Superior.
        2. The individual nominated must have completed competition a minimum of 10 years ago.
        3. All nominations will be kept on file for three nomination cycles (six years).

Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award: This award recognizes other accomplishments outside Yellowjacket competition. The award honors career achievements in coaching. Individuals nominated for this award must display exceptional coaching abilities at any level and must be graduates of UW-Superior. All nominations will be kept on file for three nomination cycles (six years).

Carl Vergamini Contributions to Yellowjacket Athletics Award: This award recognizes other accomplishments outside Yellowjacket competition. It will recognize individuals who have made positive contributions that support and promote Yellowjacket Athletics. These individuals need not be graduates of UW-Superior. All nominations will be kept on file for three nomination cycles (six years).

Dr. Lydia Thering Meritorious Service Award: This award recognizes an individual who has made substantial and innovative contributions to the principles of wellness in any society. These principles embrace the following:

        1. Personal responsibility
        2. Sensitivity to the environment
        3. Nutritional awareness
        4. Stress management
        5. Physical fitness

The candidate is required to have attended UW-Superior a minimum of two years, and at least five years shall have passed since the individual has competed at UW-Superior. All nominations will be kept on file for three nomination cycles (six years).

Team Award: This award recognizes and honors teams that have displayed distinctive, unique or exceptional athletic accomplishment at UW-Superior. Teams nominated must have completed competition a minimum of 10 years ago. All nominations will be kept on file for three nomination cycles (six years).
 
To be considered for the class of 2024, nominators must fill out the nomination form in its entirety. Additional information can be submitted to the committee through the email address sports@uwsuper.edu. The nomination window for the class of 2024 closes Mar. 31, 2024.
 
The UW-Superior Athletic Hall of Fame committee will convene in early April to review nominations, with the official announcement of the induction class being made at the end of April.
